Earlier this year, members of the Division of Neurobiology and Behavior Research celebrated Dr. Craig Stockmeier's retirement.

The department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior completed the Communicate with H.E.A.R.T. program. Designed by the Cleveland Clinic, the program was created to provide an exceptional patient and employee experience at every point of interaction.

The first revised set of guidelines to treat obesity in children and teenagers in more than 15 years adds approved diet drugs and surgery to the list of possible solutions. Still, primary care providers stress a balanced approach of exercise, lifestyle changes and family involvement.

Grant to boost statewide treatment for drug, alcohol addictions

A $6M federal grant is allowing UMMC addiction medicine providers to greatly expand services across Mississippi for those needing drug and alcohol addiction treatment. It allows the Medical Center and subgrantees Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi to perform research, and gives provides new tools, including enhanced use of telehealth, so patients can get the residential or outpatient help they need.

For children and adolescents with chronic pain, the pediatric pain clinic at Children’s of Mississippi can provide relief through multidisciplinary care. Strategies such as cognitive behavioral therapy and physical therapy can help children miss fewer days of school and lead more active lives.
